SS parts

I have been using the Surly cogs for a while now and have been quite impressed. They're made of SCM415 CroMoly steel and are beautifully machined to perfection (none of that stamped crap from China). They're 4.5mm wide and the teeth are offset to one side so you can flip it over to get a little better chain alignment. Tall teeth and super-strong steel mean long life and no slippage. It's a gorgeous addition to the beast.

  1. That's a nice looking cog. Sadly, I'm still riding that stamped crap from China, which is fortunately working for me, but I'm not against an upgrade, especially considering what the current cog is probably doing to my free hub body! Is the 4.5mm a bit wider such that it displaces the load a bit better?

Thanks for the pic and review. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Peace, Happy New Year and Happy Trails!

  2. Yeah, it's roughly twice as wide (keep that in mind when you get a spacer kit...) so it doesn't cut into the freehub. It's really a quality part.

Regarding the spacer kit, I'm going to also review the Surly SS Spacer kit that I use. it's quite nice and has seemingly endless alignment options.

    Later!

  3. I'll have to watch for you next review. The crow in me says, "That sure is shiny bling... Must. Put. In. Nest!"

    Peace.
